Yes, songwriter and publisher information is provided to you as part of the Limelight service. The information is included in each PDF license (available for download by logging into your account, clicking ”My Account”, then ”My Orders”, and View Detail.  Each track and configuration contains a unique PDF license.

What sort of legwork might I be doing with this information after purchasing these licenses?

Hi Ian,

The songwriter and publisher information are often needed by your online digital distributor (they'll often ask for it) when uploading to services.

In addition, if you're creating physical CDs, it's typically asked that you provide as much information related to the original copyright owner as possible (at least songwriter, if not songwriter and publisher information).

I have often spent many hours trying to find who is who and what is what about copyright holders and publishers etc.when I wanted to write my own arrangement of and record myself singing songs from way back. You know what? Thank the Lord I can write my own songs and music because you have to go to so much trouble and even then cannot get to find out who can give the necessary permission for you to carry out your intentions.

Jeez! I'd rather be able to sleep at night than having to worry if some money-hungry copyright chaser might be intent on hounding me all the way to the Supreme Court!

My advice? If you can, work out how to re-invent musically an original composition you want to have a go at arranging or singing.  It must be quite different than the original music of course, but at least you will get the satisfaction of achieving your goal and getting that all important stress free shut-eye of a night!
